FLOATER’S BLOG: Rooftop Pool Float Date - March 6th, 2026

I have finally inflated my craft.

A few powerful breaths and behold, my boat is ready to suspend my butt on the aqua blue.

There is a San Miguel Pilsen loaded in my ‘Canada’ koozie resting poolside, so I toss my float on the surface and take the required two ladder steps to reach the base of this rooftop shallow end. It’s barely a jump to mount my haven for the next few minutes as I take in my second sunset on the little Philippine island of Boracay.

I don’t think the accommodation listing said “ocean view” but there is one from the roof of this small hotel set back almost a block from the sugary sands of White Beach.

Well, a bit of a view of the ocean between the other three, four and five storey buildings. In fact, two tiny gap ocean views, but also so much more.

In many ways the view is better from a float in the pool than standing at the roof edge leaning against the railing. From here I can’t see the construction mess in the lot next door or the garbage which hasn’t been cleaned out of another empty lot.

What I see is much nicer. Above there are beautiful wispy, sun splashed clouds reflecting the colourful tones of the evening. While towards the setting sun, I see wonderful, silhouetted tree branches which just happen to be the nighttime roosting perches for six Blue-tailed Bee-eaters (local birds) which alighted before my eyes while calling to each other.

It is all so very peaceful just a few floors above the bustling streets – a nice moment of relaxation. (At least for now. It’s a Friday night and it is about to rev up.)

This one beer float is also a pleasant reminder of what I have been missing with my hectic tourist travel schedule.
